His awakening from a thirty-nine-year slumber set the events of Dragon Ball Super in motion: driven by a prophetic dream of a Super Saiyan God who would become his ultimate rival, he traveled to Earth and challenged Goku. Their battle, spectacular in scale with shockwaves rippling across the universe, ended with Goku absorbing the power of Super Saiyan God into his base form and earning Beerus's grudging respect. Though he spared Earth, Beerus has consistently served as the ultimate benchmark for Goku and Vegeta's growth. His power dwarfs nearly everything in the franchise: with a casual gesture, he knocked out Super Saiyan 3 Goku; with a sneeze, he can shatter planets. He has demonstrated an incomplete version of Ultra Instinct, and his Hakai technique erases targets from existence across all planes. As a character, Beerus is mercurial: one moment playful and food-obsessed, the next terrifyingly destructive. Despite his capricious nature, he has shown genuine investment in Goku and Vegeta's development, pushing them toward Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego respectively. His life is linked to the Supreme Kai Shin: if Shin dies, Beerus dies, a vulnerability he must carefully guard. His rivalry with his twin brother Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6, produces some of the series' most comedic moments.
